PS3 Hacked! SO?!

The Playstation 3 has finally been hacked! The everyone all around are excited, for now we have the chance to run whatever applications we want. I for one am very excited to see what homebrew apps we will see be made for the playstation 3 but aside from that there is nothing else really. I mean, many people think that because the PS3 has been hacked now it will open door for games to be pirated. Well this is true but it will not be as big as many would think.

First off, the PS3 uses blu-rays for its game storage medium. While people can go buy blu-ray burners and blank Blu-ray disc, it cost a good bit of money! I know it is less when you calculate it out in the long run of perfectly burnt discs. The second thing is why risk spending your money on those things if all you are going to do is pirate because you might get you PSN banned and/or might not be able to use them with a firmware update?

My second point is, I know that people made custom firmwares for the psp and they might do it for ps3...okay..but WHO IS GOING TO SPEND THEIR TIME DOWNLOADING A 40GB GAME!!! Well I know not all games are 40gbs and most are not even at the max on a single-layer blu-ray (25gbs). What I am saying for the high profile games and stuff you would have to download a big iso file. I have a 500gb HD but that can only hold about 10-20 PS3 games. Plus, with data-caps on most broadband connects who would want to pay extra on their bill downloading a game. I know, I know, I said it already that not all games are that big. I do see games that take up a small amount of space being pirated easily for the PS3 using some sort of usb iso loading thing. The only problem is, that can be easily taken cared of by the developers filling discs with garbage data. It is not that hard to put almost 10gbs of cut-senses into a game that is not really needed. So the real question is who is going to download all those games?

I do see that there will be much fun to be had with homebrew apps. I see all types of emulators and custom made games being brought on to the ps3.

Multiplayer...

Okay I know I am going to offend some people with this.

I hate multiplayer only games. Don't get me wrong I like Battlefield 1943 but I hate that it is only a multiplayer game. Socom and Warhawk are really good games but I wished they had a single player campaign to go with it. I love to play through a story and stuff. If you look at Unreal Tournament 3 (I love UT3 it is one of my favorite games.), it has a single player campaign that teaches you the game and gets you ready for online play. Also, it also has offline bots! I will say the single player campaign kind of sucks on UT3 but I love having something to do offline when my internet is down or whatever it is. Whenever the servers for the games are taken down what is there to play in most of these games?

I know people are going to hate me for this but I will give a game comparison. Look at the top multiplayer games. Call of a Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3, Left 4 dead 2, and Killzone 2. They all have a solid single player aspect to it for people that do not have friends or an internet connection at home but still want to experience the game.

Another thing I hate about multiplayer is the fact that people are making trophies/achievements multiplayer tied. If I want to get all my point in a 360 game or a platinum trophy on PS3 I have to play online to get it. What about the people without an internet connection that would like to have a complete game. I see that sometimes these things are a good thing but don't make people go head over heel to do crazy things online.

What Makes A Good Game

When I think of a game, I always think of a game that grabs me by just letting me have FUN! We all have played Gears of War, Halo, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Wii Sports, and Call of Duty. No matter what your preference of system you may have, you can not say these games are not some great games.

I'll use Call of Duty as an example because it is multi-platform. When we play a game like Call of Duty we are drawn by it because it is really fun to play. I have to admit, it is really easy and it is kind of a noob game, but it is FUN! I think what developers forget when they are developing games is that games have to be fun for everyone. MW1 was great and MW2 is also great. Did i enjoy every new aspect of the new one? No, but other people did. Honestly MW2 does not look all that better than MW1 so the development did not go into graphics but into gameplay and that's what a lot of people find it really fun.

Do not get me wrong Gears of War and Uncharted looks OMG GOOD!!! But they are exclusives and have been tailored to the system and the development team is all focus on one system.

Left 4 dead is another game that is really fun and it look...well it cannot compare with Gears of War in visuals but in the fun meter it is close. Valve made a really great game and I defiantly love it.

I would really like to tell developers, everyone knows this and everyone says it but honestly I don't think they do, if you are going to make a game make it fun. Make a crud build of a level and find out what your fans want. Build a level and have people all over tell you if this shooting mechanic is better than this one. Maybe how you like it to be is not what others want. Maybe people think your idea sucks...I'm sorry if they do but you have to learn to expect you can not make people like everything you do. When I see behind the scence footage by Insomniac Games it makes me smile to hear that everyone there have a say in the games, no matter what part they work in. If other developers did this but in a larger sense with not just tester but with public feedback during development games could be so amazing.

I will end with this. I love amazing graphics and who does not we all want to look at something amazing while playing it. Graphics alone should not make a person want to play a game. Games like Assassin's Creed 2 does not look as good as most other games but it is a must buy game in my book because it is fun to play.

Thank you for your time. I will try to keep it short next time!
